I loved this book, I enjoyed the story (was believable for me in a realm of magic), I grew attached to characters and the poignant picture of the circus and its followers. I really want this book to be animated, I imagined the beautiful descriptors and could only see animation doing it justice. (in the style of Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli). Overall I read it quickly not being able to stop, to see where in the world the story was going. The beautiful clock and the magic of the circus feeding on memories of my own and ones I can imagine. Scents coming to me as vividly as daydreams of the black and white circus, praying it would stop in my town. I recommend this for the average/teen reader. (older teen)
Lois Duncan delivers as always. Since reading Killing Mr. Griffin (over 10 years ago) I have been hooked on her books and this was no exception. The book starts out and draws you into the characters and helps you feel as she does.
Reinstedt( a local author of Monterey Bay and was my mothers teacher) gives us a great account of peoples experiences in my own home town and county in this collection of notes. The notes paint a very interesting picture upon peoples experience in various famous (and some private) areas around the Monterey bay. Including places such as Steinbeck's home and the cannery row and including the Naval Post Graduate school, ghost (or even legend) enthusiasts definitely have something to chew on in these accounts.
